Real numbers from a local contractor — no vague "call for pricing." Here’s what driveways, patios, walkways, steps and pads actually cost in our area in 2026, and what drives the price up or down.
These are realistic installed ranges for our service area — Innisfil, Barrie, and surrounding Simcoe County. Prices include excavation, compacted granular base, forming, 32 MPa air-entrained concrete (the right mix for Ontario freeze-thaw), placement and finishing.
| Project | Typical Size | Price / Sq Ft |
|---|---|---|

| Walkway or sidewalk | 100–250 sq ft | $12 – $18 |
| Patio — broom finish | 200–500 sq ft | $11 – $16 |
| Stamped or decorative concrete | any | $16 – $28 |
| Exposed aggregate finish | any | $14 – $22 |
| Concrete steps | per step | $300 – $600 |
| Garage / shed pad | 200–600 sq ft | $10 – $14 |
| Old concrete removal & disposal | any | $2 – $5 |
Smaller jobs cost more per square foot because setup, forming and concrete delivery minimums are spread over less area. Every property is different — the ranges above are honest ballparks, not a quote.

The #1 reason driveways fail early in Ontario is a skimped base. Proper excavation and a compacted granular base is what lets a slab survive our freeze-thaw winters — it's built into our pricing, never an "extra."
Exterior concrete here needs to be 32 MPa air-entrained. Cheaper quotes sometimes hide a weaker mix. Ask any contractor what mix they're pouring — a good one will tell you without hesitation.
Tight backyard access, slopes, tree roots, or poor drainage add labour. Wheelbarrow-only access costs more than truck-to-forms.
Tearing out an old walkway or driveway adds roughly $2–$5 per square foot for breaking, hauling and dump fees.
Broom finish is the workhorse — durable, slip-resistant, best value. Exposed aggregate and decorative finishes add cost but boost curb appeal.
Bigger pours are cheaper per square foot. Delivery minimums and setup time hit small jobs hardest — pairing a walkway with a patio in one pour can save real money.
Asphalt is cheaper upfront — usually $4–$8 per square foot. But it needs resealing every 2–3 years and typically lasts 15–20 years. A properly poured concrete driveway lasts 25–30+ years with almost no maintenance. Over the life of the surface, concrete usually wins on total cost — and it looks better doing it.
